Mission Statement

Green Meadow Waldorf School derives its life and nature from an understanding that each human being is a unique individual with spiritual, moral and physical relationships to the earth and to society. Our intent is to foster self-reliance in our students, along with consciousness of their rightful relationship to others. We want them to develop the capacity for creative and independent thought as well as the discernment to act in a free and morally responsible way. Our curriculum affords them the practical skills and knowledge necessary to meet the challenges of their next steps in life, but our success as educators is measured by more than what our students know or what they can do now. We are concerned with how they continue to develop throughout their lives.

Within our school community and in our classrooms, we strive to create a cultural and social learning environment that enriches and inspires our students, colleagues, parents, friends and alumni. Working together with parents, we hope to foster an understanding of and support for Waldorf Education in our school and in the wider community.

Vision Statement

In a concerted outreach and parent education effort, we at Green Meadow dedicate ourselves to bringing to the wider community an awareness of Waldorf education and of our school’s programs.  Offering a developmentally appropriate curriculum which educates children to realize their potential and their humanity, we will aspire to serve those families who share this vision. We continuously assess the needs of our students and their families in order to adapt and evolve our curriculum, organization, and facilities to meet those needs.

The Spiritual Aspect of Waldorf Education

The Green Meadow Waldorf School is affiliated with the international association of Waldorf Schools, one of the largest school movements in the world.  Waldorf education, founded by Rudolf Steiner in Germany in 1919, is dedicated to the effort to guide the spirit in the human being to discover the spirit in the universe.

The identity of every Waldorf school is profoundly affected by the spiritual values at the core of Waldorf pedagogy. The faculty draws on Rudolf Steiner’s Anthroposophy for its insight into human development and its grounding in the spiritual core of Christianity, without an ideological or denominational character.  There is no wish to impart any particular religion to the students, nor are there devotional services of any kind offered.

Green Meadow is open to children of all backgrounds, and the curriculum is rich in the teachings of the many great religious traditions of the world.  Through their experiences in the classrooms and in the celebration of the seasonal festivals of the year, students are enabled to develop understanding and respect for the diverse cultures of the world.  Drawing primarily, but not exclusively, on Judeo/Christian traditions, the festival assemblies celebrate our common humanity, not our separateness in belief or practice. Students from many religious and cultural backgrounds have been educated at Green Meadow, finding their essential spiritual nature uniquely recognized and honored, with their private beliefs respected.
