Why GMWS

Green Meadow Waldorf School offers:

Respect for Childhood

As a Waldorf school, Green Meadow is keenly intent on preserving the innocence and wonder of childhood.  Our Parent-Child Program provides babies through age three and their parents/caregivers a gentle surrounding in which to interact, socialize with others and receive an introduction to the Waldorf view of the young child.

Our Early Childhood Nursery and Kindergarten classes for young children ages two through six provide the important opportunities for free play and natural discovery that childhood experts increasingly recognize are vital for children’s healthy intellectual and emotional development, and which set the stage for their future academic pursuits.

Academic Excellence

Students in our Lower School (grades one through eight) delight in a rich, age-appropriate curriculum which develops their understanding, strengthens their imagination and feeds their spirit.

Our High School students (grades nine though twelve) are inspired by an intellectually challenging course load, augmented by a range of extracurricular activities and delivered by faculty who are ever-aware of the needs and interests of adolescents and young adults.

Our graduates, consistently accepted by the nation’s top colleges and universities, are prized for their genuine intellectual curiosity, openness to life and can-do attitude. Shaped by the richness of their Waldorf education, equipped with crucial critical-thinking skills, powered by confidence, and motivated by a compassionate desire to make a difference, our graduates are highly prepared to meet the challenges of today’s fast-paced world.

Joy in Learning

Green Meadow’s educational philosophy, favoring creative, yet structured, non-competitive schooling over conventional “teaching to the test,” produces students who find genuine joy in their education.

“Main Lesson” blocks allow students from grades one through twelve to fully explore one academic subject in great depth and with full concentration before moving on to the next.

Handwork, practical crafts, and fine and performing arts are infused across the Green Meadow curriculum, contributing to the development of highly balanced individuals.  Consistent with the Waldorf Education tenet that "doing promotes learning," all Green Meadow students create their own textbooks.

Community Spirit

Green Meadow’s campus is a warm, refreshing environment where personal integrity matters more than material status, and where parents, faculty and staff of diverse backgrounds share a common desire to raise empathetic young people with strong social awareness.

In an era when virtual realities and one-upmanship reign, Green Meadow promotes such “old-fashioned” values as caring and looking out for one another. Lifelong friendships are forged here, while individual paths are honored.

Affordability and Accessibility

Green Meadow is one of the most affordable independent schools in the NY/NJ area.  We firmly believe in the value of diversity in our student body and are sincerely interested in being within the economic reach of any family interested in Waldorf Education.

Our Rockland County, NY location, just over the Montvale, NJ border and close to the New York State Thruway and Garden State Parkway, makes us easily reachable from numerous villages, towns and counties.

Experience the Difference.  Experience Waldorf Education.
