Overview

The Green Meadow application process is designed to facilitate an exchange of information between family and school. It is important that prospective parents have an understanding of Green Meadow and Waldorf Education.  It is equally important that there be a good fit between the student and the class.   The following is a general look at our application process.  For more specific information, please go the Application Process page under Early ChildhoodLower School or High School.

Throughout the year, we offer a variety of informational admissions events, some designed just for parents and others for parents and students.  For a complete schedule of upcoming events and dates, please go to our Admissions Events page.

1. Introductory Sessions

The first required step in the application process is for parents to attend an Introductory Session.  These two-hour, adult-only sessions include:

  • An informative video presentation on Waldorf Education and Green Meadow Waldorf School
  • A question and answer period with our administrator
  • A tour of our campus

Our next Introductory Session will take place on Friday, January 27. To register for this date, or to set up another time to visit, please contact Admissions Coordinator, Patricia Owens, at powens@gmws.org or 845-356-9715.

2. Application

Applications may be submitted through the mail or dropped off in person at an enrollment event.

The application consists of the following:

3. Application Review

Once the above materials have been received, the applicant's candidacy will be reviewed.  Upon decision to proceed to the next step, parent/teacher interviews and student visits will be arranged.

4. Parent/Teacher Interviews and Student Visits

Nursery/Kindergarten

Both parents must be present at an interview with an Early Childhood teacher.

Following the parent interview, the child will be invited to participate in an afternoon playgroup.

Lower School Grades 1-8

One parent (and, preferably, both) of applicants to the Lower School will attend an interview with the Class Teacher.

Children applying for grades two through eight will be invited to spend at least one day visiting the class to which they are applying.

High School Grades 9-12

High School applicants will be invited to attend classes for one day and will meet with the Class Advisors.  Students may be asked to complete short placement exercises in math and in English.

One parent (and, preferably, both) will attend an interview with the Class Advisors.

5. Admission Decision

Eligibility for acceptance into the class is determined by the teachers in the section (Nursery/Kindergarten, Lower School, or High School). This decision will be communicated in writing to the parents.

6. Financial Arrangements

Following acceptance, the Business Office will contact parents to make financial arrangements for enrollment.

7. Nursery/Kindergarten Class Assignment & First Grade Reception

Nursery and kindergarten parents will receive a letter in August with information about their child’s teacher assignment.

Parents of incoming first graders will be invited to a spring reception to meet their children's Class Teacher.

To learn more about our programs, please contact Admission Coordinator Patricia Owens at powens@gmws.org or 845-356-9715.
