Tonight! Community Forum for East Ramapo

Please join us for an important Community Forum for East Ramapo tonight from 7-9pm in the Arts Building. A student-led forum for all East Ramapo high-school students will take place alongside a separate facilitated conversation for adults. The event is open to all and we expect well over 100 students and many adults to be with us tonight for this important conversation.

For some context on the situation in our school district, listen to this piece from This American Life.

What defines a high-quality pre-Kindergarten?

This NPR piece from earlier this year advocates for a play-based Early Childhood education, which Green Meadow offers.

The Marshmallow Test

Are students losing their ability to self-regulate? Is "self-regulation" another word for obedience? What about the debate on willpower and that hard-to-define concept du jour, "grit"?  This piece on the “academic diligence task” raises complex questions.

Simplicity Parenting

We wanted to share a link with you, to the Simplicity Parenting blog, which offers lots of inspiration for slowing down in order to connect more deeply with your family.

Green Meadow parent (and Parent & Child teacher) Marieke Duijneveld will offer a Simplicity Parenting class beginning on October 6. See details and registration information in our Community Education brochure.

The Value of Unstructured Play Time for Kids

Let's remember the importance of unstructured play time for our children, all summer long.

A great quote:

"Free play allows children to develop the flexibility needed to adapt to changing circumstances and environments—an ability that comes in very handy when life becomes unpredictable as an adult."
