Who We Are

At the heart of Waldorf Education is an understanding that every stage of development is unique. As surely as we must babble before we talk and crawl before we walk, the faculty at Green Meadow know that students must master skills in one area of the curriculum before they can take the next step. Unhurried, and with a real respect for the individual, a Green Meadow education is academically rigorous and prepares your child to graduate with a love of learning and an ability to think flexibly, analytically, and creatively.

Green Meadow Waldorf School is one of about 300 Waldorf Schools in the US and approximately 1000 Waldorf Schools internationally. Designed to address children’s physical, emotional, and intellectual needs in an age-appropriate manner, Waldorf Education strives to help create individuals who live up to their fullest capacities. Rather than teaching to the test, the Waldorf curriculum fosters critical thinking and problem-solving, develops ethics and morality, and promotes true joy in learning.

We believe that education must connect to one’s essential nature and engage a child’s will, feeling, and thinking.  By encouraging direct experience with subject material, introducing developmentally appropriate subject matter, and providing purposeful activities that renew the soul, Waldorf Education promotes wholeness by bringing together body, mind, and spirit.

Green Meadow Waldorf School is an accredited full member of the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America (AWSNA), an association that strengthens and supports Waldorf schools and informs the public of the benefits of Waldorf Education.

Green Meadow is also an accredited member of the New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS), a voluntary association of more than 140 independent schools in the state of New York. All the schools are non-profit institutions that are chartered by the Board of Regents, individually governed by elected boards of trustees, and privately financed by tuitions, fees, and contributions. NYSAIS offers services to administrators, teachers, trustees and parents involved in private schools from preschool through twelfth grade.
