Movement/Physical Education Faculty

Kemal Lowenthal


BFA, Ceramics and Sculpture, Minor in Art History, School for American Crafts, Rochester Institute of Technology; M.Ed., Waldorf Elementary Education, Antioch University of New England

Kemal attended GMWS for 14 years and graduated in 2007. His primary role at Green Meadow is in the High School Mathematics Department.

After completing his undergraduate degree, he taught for five years at the Maine Coast Waldorf School in Freeport, ME; subjects included woodwork, math, literature, art, 6th grade Geology, 7th grade Algebra, high school electives, drama (and Middle School Ultimate Frisbee coach). He also served as the elementary grades (1-8) Faculty Chair and sat on the Leadership Committee and the College of Teachers. 

Kemal was married in 2014 and celebrated the birth of his son in December of 2016. He enjoys woodworking and practicing the system of Reiki at the second level.

Julia Muñiz Lieberman


BS, Physical Education, SUNY Cortland State University

Julia Muñiz Lieberman attended GMWS from Kindergarten through Grade 8 in Jane Wulsin's Class of 2007. She studied Physical Education at SUNY Delhi for two years, where she played basketball and was co-captain of the team. She then assisted at Green Meadow for the 2010-11 school year. After graduating from Cortland State University with a degree in Physical Education, Julia returned to Green Meadow as the Gym Assistant and then spent a season in Arizona doing wild land firefighting.  In February 2016, she took over as the Games & Movement Teacher. 

Julia also coaches the GMWS High School Girls’ Basketball team.  She is trained in survival skills, water safety instruction, archery, and trains her own students in Japanese Karate Do Martial Arts.
