About Us

Green Meadow is an independent Preschool-12th grade school, located in Rockland County, NY on a pastoral campus, which includes a school farm, woodlands, and meadows. Celebrating our 71st anniversary this year, we are committed to in-person learning, providing our students with opportunities for outdoor education and to learn within an inclusive community that reflects the diversity of NY state.

Applicants should have an interest in and previous understanding of Waldorf pedagogy and its background in anthroposophy (Waldorf certification is required for many positions). We are looking for flexible, enthusiastic colleagues with a sense of humor, who will participate wholeheartedly in the life of the school. Our school encourages professional development through mentoring by master teachers and support for attending conferences and courses.

Successful applicants will be joining a vibrant faculty and be able to partake of the benefits of an established anthroposophical community in suburban New York. Chestnut Ridge is about 20 miles from the cultural offerings and diversity of NYC and close to large state parks. Our school contains an enlivening mix of seasoned, maturing, and newer teachers. The overall enrollment of our school is around 220 students. Green Meadow is accredited by AWSNA and NYSAIS.

Available Positions

HS Physics and Chemistry Teacher

We seek an engaging high school physics and chemistry teacher interested in a creative, phenomenological approach to STEM education.

Skills: Teaching experience, understanding of Waldorf science pedagogy, ability to create curricula in conjunction with and to collaborate with colleagues, ability to communicate the pedagogy of Waldorf education to and to foster healthy collaborative relationships with parents, and ability to foster healthy collegial relationships within the section and school.

Teaching responsibilities:

  • Physics and chemistry blocks in grades 9-12
  • Full-year honors elective science courses
  • Some math teaching in the high school
  • The ability to teach or support science blocks in the middle school would be warmly welcomed.
  • The ability to support STEAM classes and/or a robotics program would be warmly welcomed.
  • The ability to serve as a class advisor and trip leader would be an advantage.

Background required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a physical science or science education; master’s degree preferred.
  • Understanding of Waldorf science pedagogy, or willingness to take further education courses to develop this understanding.
  • Experience teaching physical science will be a strong advantage, particularly if this is within a Waldorf setting.
  • Waldorf science teacher training will be an advantage.

Mentoring and support are supplied to all new teachers.

Candidates should demonstrate an ability to foster healthy, culturally sensitive, collaborative relationships with students, parents and colleagues.

Part-Time German Teacher · 2024-25

Part-time Salaried German Teacher

Green Meadow seeks a part-time, dynamic German language teacher with well-developed classroom management skills who can meet and inspire students to learn about German language and culture. Join our excellent World Language Department, with growth potential in the coming years as we grow our high school program. This is a 60 % salaried position, teaching 4 days/week, a mix of middle school and lower school classes.


The World Language Department believes students should be global citizens and active members of our local communities, linguistically and culturally. We aim to facilitate the development of strong comprehension and speaking skills, ease and confidence with reading and writing skills, and introduce students to the joys and beauty of language learning through a developmental and artistic curriculum based on principles of Waldorf education.


A Green Meadow Waldorf School German teacher inspires and develops students to be competent language and cultural learners, to participate in our World Language Exchange program, teaches students about German language cultures, which includes history, culture, festivals, traditional food, social conventions, organizes events where students can showcase their language skills; develops lesson plans and curricula based on the needs of individual classes and students, teaches writing and composition, provide conversational classes to master near-native pronunciation.

Job requirements

The ideal candidate will have a relevant four-year college degree, an advanced degree strongly preferred, middle school and high school teaching experience or other relevant experience, Waldorf teacher training or a commitment to complete Waldorf teacher training, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and a spirit of collaboration. Green Meadow is committed to cultivating a diverse community of learners and creating learning environments respectful of all students, parents and colleagues, without discrimination.

Other duties include:

Student assessment and report writing, communicating with parents in writing and verbally in parent conferences, and providing suggestions and support for struggling students.


This is a 60% salaried position, with remuneration based on experience and educational background ranging from $30,000 – $46,000.

Part-Time Applied Arts Teaching Position · 2024-25

Green Meadow seeks a part time Applied Arts teacher to join our art department staff. We are looking for someone to supplement our High School curriculum or take on some of our current Middle School curriculum. The ideal candidate has experience teaching crafts at the middle school or high school level. Our school offers in-house mentors and the candidate will work side by side with our Applied Arts teacher, Kemal Lowenthal. As members of the Middle and High School faculty, teachers have the opportunity to work collectively within the department and cross departments. 

The position can range from 3-7 hours per week for either a year or semester, depending on the constellation of classes and quarters taught.


The successful candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree: Master of Fine Arts preferred
  • Professional arts training
  • Be proficient in the use of various tools and mediums
  • Interest in and appreciation for Waldorf Education
  • Commitment to professional growth including further education in Waldorf teaching
  • Versatility, enthusiasm, punctuality, creativity
