About Us

Green Meadow is an independent Preschool-12th grade school, located in Rockland County, NY on a pastoral campus, which includes a school farm, woodlands, and meadows. Celebrating our 71st anniversary this year, we are committed to in-person learning, providing our students with opportunities for outdoor education and to learn within an inclusive community that reflects the diversity of NY state.

Applicants should have an interest in and previous understanding of Waldorf pedagogy and its background in anthroposophy (Waldorf certification is required for many positions). We are looking for flexible, enthusiastic colleagues with a sense of humor, who will participate wholeheartedly in the life of the school. Our school encourages professional development through mentoring by master teachers and support for attending conferences and courses.

Successful applicants will be joining a vibrant faculty and be able to partake of the benefits of an established anthroposophical community in suburban New York. Chestnut Ridge is about 20 miles from the cultural offerings and diversity of NYC and close to large state parks. Our school contains an enlivening mix of seasoned, maturing, and newer teachers. The overall enrollment of our school is around 220 students. Green Meadow is accredited by AWSNA and NYSAIS.

Available Positions

High School Eurythmy Teacher for 2024-2025

Green Meadow is looking for a high school eurythmy teacher to carry a successful high school eurythmy program. The ideal candidate is a trained pedagogical eurythmist with experience teaching adolescents and eurythmy performing experience.  An ideal candidate is a dynamic teacher with excellent classroom management, written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational capacities. An interest in being part of the high school faculty is essential.
We will consider a strong inexperienced candidate, and will offer excellent mentoring support.
The position is part time, and may include 10 lessons/week in eurythmy. Compensation is commensurate with experience.

Early Childhood Assistant Teacher

Green Meadow Waldorf School is looking for part-time assistant teachers to support our preschool and kindergarten programs in the 2024-2025 school year. Applicants must have a love for working with children as well as an interest and willingness to be active in outdoor work including gardening and animal care.

The assistant teacher works under the supervision and guidance of the Class Teacher. The Assistant Teacher’s main task is to support the class teacher and the work of the classroom and outdoor environment. The teachers model a relationship based on mutual respect, trust and joy for working together. As an education professional, maintaining confidentiality is required.

Skills

  • Interest in working with children under the lead teachers guidance
  • Enjoy daily active engagement in work (for example gardening and animal care)
  • Enjoy domestic activities such as preparing snack, dish washing…
  • Be attentive to all areas involving the safety and well-being of the children
  • Be a quiet but active presence in the classroom
  • Work with children one-to-one and in a small group
  • Be open and receptive to suggestions
  • Radiate a joyful inner mood
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Re-direct parental questions to the lead teacher

Our beautiful school is located on a 140 acre campus that includes a farm, forests, streams, and gardens. Our Farm Kindergarten is on the Duryea Farm, a working biodynamic farm., and all kindergarten classes spend time on the farm

Training & Education:

The ideal candidate will have experience working with children, ideally in a Waldorf setting. Waldorf teacher training is preferred, but not required. The assistant positions offer opportunities to continue education in early childhood education.

Hours are from 8:30-2:30, 5 days a week. The pay scale is $20-$25/hour dependent on experience and hours worked.
